establish core interdisciplinary teams of 3-4
teachers in each of three school districts or regions, including teachers
from math, physics, and technology (e.g. engineering, drafting, carpentry),
who will meet throughout the school-year to plan and implement development
of the model trebuchet to be designed and built with their students.
|
 |
extend the interdisciplinary approach and impact
of the project by involving drafting, history, and art teachers in each
school in key components of the project, e.g. providing construction plans,
exploring social/historical issues and implications, and developing creative
target designs.
|
 |
provide training and technical assistance--through
a College-led team of construction, engineering, math, physics, and history
faculty--that will lead to an understanding of the fundamentals needed to
complete three successful "siege machines," as indicated by their
successful launching in an end-of-year community event.
|
Positive performance indicators will include:
 |
the extent to which we meet our goal of involving
a minimum of 6 teachers (across the curriculum) in each of five schools in a
successful process of planning, investigation, creation, and self-reflection
through a sustained interdisciplinary project
|
 |
the completion of 3 functioning model trebuchets,
displayed in a community event that promotes and recognizes student and
teacher achievement
|
 |
quality products for dissemination, including team
portfolios, journals, and process evaluations that demonstrate the
project’s relevance to Curriculum Frameworks in math, science, technology,
history , and art
