Learning objective #1:

Perform safety inspection of radial arm saw.

PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS: Provide students with a period of instruction, demonstration, and inspection guidelines on the radial arm saw.

DESIRED BEHAVIOR: the student will perform safety inspection of the radial arm saw.

EVALUATION CRITERIA: The student will inspect the radial arm saw, check the blade for any missing teeth, check tightness of the blade nut and check the power cord for any cuts and the plug for loose wires.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

The Instructor shall:

1. Provide demonstrations related to routine safety inspections of

2. equipment and that students have the proper clothing and personal safety

equipment.

3. Introduce related terms and definitions.

4. Observe student conducting safety inspections.

Learning objective #2:

Set-up radial arm saw for cutting tenons with a dado head.

PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS: Provided with a period of instruction and demonstration, verbal or written instructions the student will install the dado head cutters on the radial arm saw.

EVALUATION CRITERIA: The student will install the dado head cutter on the radial arm saw.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

The Instructor shall:

1. Provide demonstrations related to safe handling of the saw blades.

2. Introduce related terms and definitions. 3. Observe student changing the saw blades. 4. Observe student following safe practices.

Learning objective #3:

Cutting a tenon.

PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS: Provided with a period of instruction and demonstration, verbal or written instructions the student will layout and cut a tenon on a 2" x 4" piece of lumber.

EVALUATION CRITERIA: The student will cut a tenon on the radial arm saw to the specified dimensions.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

The Instructor shall:

I. Provide demonstrations relating to the layout and dimensioning of the tenon using a combination square. 2. Provide demonstrations on cutting the tenon. 3. Introduce related terms and definitions. 4. Observe the student laying out the tenon using the Combination Square. 5. Observe the student using the radial arm saw to cut out the tenon. 6. Observe student following safe practices.
